FIRST, which stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of 

Science and Technology, is a nonprofit organization founded 

by inventor Dean Kamenin 1989. Created to inspire young

 people to pursue interests in science, technology, engineering, 

and math, FIRST launched the FIRST Robotics Competition 

(FRC) in 1992. What began with only 28 teams has since 

grown into a global movement with thousands of teams

 in over 80 countries.
